A 3D Halloween

Screencrave

“You are turning into an American.”  That’s what my Dad told me when I told him I was making pumpkin lanterns from balloons, yesterday.  When asked to explain, Dad told me that I spend ages preparing for Christmas, birthdays and various other ‘special’ days, such as Halloween, Valentine’s Day etc, ”like Americans do”.  Don’t worry, I told him off for making such sweeping generalisations about an entire nation.  In many ways, however, he has a point; since we got The Things we actually do make an effort

In the interest of research and enlightenment I sat on a sofa, eating popcorn and watched some 3D TV this weekend.

Nightmare Before Christmas 3D, rated PG
What would happen if the person in charge of Halloween took over Christmas? That’s the idea behind director Tim Burton’s stop-animation marvel.Halloweentown’s Pumpkin King Jack Skellington (see what they did there?) grows bored with the same old trick or treating, and after stumbling across Christmastown, decides to kidnap Santa (“Sandy Claws”) and take over Christmas as his own.

Nightmare Before Christmas wasn’t made as a 3D film, but has been systematically and painstakingly converted to 3D in this special edition.  Sure, there aren’t loads of the in-your-face 3D effects you see in lots of other films – particularly those made as a 3D film from the start – but the great story and brilliant characters make this a great watch.  The Nightmare Before Christmas jumps off the screen and into your living room, immersing you in the bonkers fun of the 3D cinematic experience at home.
